Dubai to Build World’s Largest Shopping Mall

By Paul Joseph

Already considered the shopping capital of the world, Dubai is set to build what will be the largest shopping mall anywhere on earth.

Slated to be even bigger than the famous Dubai Mall, the new shopping destination is a project by Dubai Holding and Emaar Properties, and is to be called Dubai Square.

Located in the heart of Dubai Creek Harbour and occupying a whopping 30 million square feet, Dubai Square will have dedicated spaces for retail, hospitality and residential areas.

The success of the development is also intended to be driven by the innovation of ‘omnichannel retailing’, a seamless blend of shopping via desktop, mobile or at a retail store.

According to an official statement by its developers, “the physical and the digital at Dubai Square co-exist in harmony, with stores acting as showrooms for their online presences.”

This translates as the implementation of digital conveniences like custom-designed mobile apps, quick checkout solutions, search and barcode scanning applications, radio-frequency identification technology, mobile payments and click-and-collect services.

Visitors can also expect traditional mall offerings but with a larger-than-life twist. The Square will be home to an entertainment arena with 3-D projection mapping, theatrical sound and lighting, high wire rigging to be used for concerts, theatre shows, exhibitions, and more.

Restaurants will feature every kind of cuisine, with some even offering 3D printed food. There will also be art installations, a Cineplex, a waterpark,a  sports arena, a supermarket and a metro link.
