El Lodge Ski & Spa: A Boutique European Skiing Getaway

By Paul Joseph

For those already missing their Winter skiing fix, why not start planning next year’s adventure by ruminating over one of Europe’s finest ski destinations?

Situated 2,100 above sea level metres above sea level in the heart of the Sierra Nevada, El Lodge Ski & Spa is Spain’s most southerly resort and even has operations running until late April – meaning a Spring visit is more than possible too.

The boutique resort is hugely popular with families, couples and friends seeking to combine time on the slope with delectable cuisine, as well as gastronomic and cultural tours in nearby Granada and the wider Alhambra region.

Boasting the only ski-in/ski-out facilities in the region, an extensive culinary offering, indulgent spa treatments, a dedicated children’s playroom and enriching outdoor activities right on its doorstep, the resort has something for everyone.

What’s more, an on-site ski centre means that ski rental, lessons and lift passes can all be arranged directly from the hotel, making everything hassle-free.

El Lodge’s signature ski-in/ski-out restaurant, The Sun Deck, provides a refreshing contrast to more traditional on-piste menus thanks to its varied offering comprising traditional tapas and plentiful light lunch options such as fresh salads, soups and heartier classics like burgers or pizza.

Contrastingly, The Grill serves up hearty fondue, raclette, grilled meats, fresh fish and locally sourced Riofrio Caviar – the first organically certified caviar in the world.

El Lodge also takes guests beyond their restaurants thanks to newly introduced foodie activities. Experiences include a bakery masterclass with expert-baker, Margarita Nuñez, founder of local bakery, Flor de Vainilla known for creating Alhambra-inspired butter cookies and cakes as well as joining El Lodge’s resident Granada expert, Luisa Corral, on the newly launched tapas tour through the city’s gypsy neighbourhood of Sacromonte.

In true Granada style, evenings end in the atmospheric, dimly-lit caves for a flamenco performance, where the dance is believed to have originated.

For families, the hotel’s chalet-style set-up and inter-connecting family rooms ensure ample space and comfort.

Beyond the slopes, families can swap skis for hiking boots at Los Cahorros gorge, and further activities include horse riding at the nearby range, children’s night-time skiing and supervised movie sessions at the kids club

Round-the-clock babysitting can also be arranged leaving parents free to enjoy one of El Lodge’s spa treatments such as the calming après-ski facial – perfect after a day on the slopes.

El Lodge Ski & Spa is located a 40-minute transfer from Granada and two hours from Malaga,
