Elounda Peninsula Is Home To Crete’s Largest Seafront Pool

By Paul Joseph

The Elouda Peninsula hotel in Crete, one of the most luxurious hotels anywhere on the idyllic Greek islands, has introduced a lavish new seafront pool to its roll-call of amenities.

Said to be the largest seafront swimming pool anywhere in Crete with 420 square metres of curves winding through native trees, the new main pool and accompanying children’s pool are the result of a collaboration with acclaimed London-based designers, WATG.

Features include a hydro-massage area, loungers in the shallows and wide steps for easy access. The 80 square metre children’s pool is separated from the main pool and has shallow and safe waters. Finished with a stylish ‘pebbledeck’, both new pools can be heated up to 27C.

From a sustainability perspective, the new pools have been deliberately designed around the trees in the area that could not be re-located. As carob trees cannot be transplanted, the pools were constructed around the two trees by the seafront in an effort to preserve the existing nature.

There are also poolside day-beds and cabanas that allow for unobstructed sea views from all corners, while rich vegetation, vibrant night-time lighting and contemporary shading add to the atmosphere and sense of comfort.

Perched on the water's edge, the Elounda Peninsula boasts beautiful views across the Aegean Sea and Sitia mountains. The hotel is known for having the finest beach area on the island of Crete, with crystal clear waters and sandy shallows.
