Faro Blanco Yacht Club & Resort Set to Revive a Golden Era

By Paul Joseph

Nestled in the city of Marathon in the heart of the Florida Keys, Faro Blanco Yacht Club & Resort will be restored to its former glories when it opens for business at the tail end of 2014.

Originally built in the 1950s, the marina development has played a prominent role in the vibrant boating history of the Florida Keys, and after falling into disrepair is now being revived thanks to the help of Spottswood Companies Inc.

Helmed by its President, Robert A. Spottswood, the family-owned organisation has ploughed significant money into Faro Blanco and the results are set to be stunning.

We sat down with Mr Spottswood and his daughter Elaine, Vice President of Business Development at the recent Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show to find out more.

“Faro Blanco Resort and Yacht Club will feature a state of the art marina, a new yacht club featuring elegant yet casual dining, 24-hour security, concierge services, a ship store, event banquet catering facilities for small and large events,” said Mr Spottswood.

“The Keys encompass nearly 3,000 square miles of pristine waters with hundreds of miles of shoreline fronting both the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico, and includes over 800 individual islands and 6,000 reefs. So the boating, fishing and diving opportunities of the Keys are just about endless.

“We’re looking at Faro Blanco as being the destination both from a hotel and marina standpoint in the Florida Keys.”
