Ferrari Creates Bespoke Model for Eric Clapton

By Paul Joseph

Italian sports car maker Ferrari has designed a one-off car as an homage to legendary guitarist and Ferrari devotee Eric Clapton.

The SP12 EC, bearing the musician’s initials, is based on the Ferrari 458 Italia and draws inspiration from the 512 BB. It was designed by the Centro Stile Ferrari, in collaboration with Pininfarina and engineers from Maranello.

At Clapton’s request, the car features the same 570bhp 4.5-litre V8 and seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox as the Ferrari 512 BB.

The car is part of Ferrari’s One-Off Programme, which was set up in 2007 to create unique models following demand from customers. Cars built by the One-Off Programme must be based on an existing Ferrari platform.

Ferrari have not confirmed how much Clapton paid for the car, but some reports indicate it was in the region of $4.75 million.
