Ferrari Next Luxury Carmaker to Enter SUV Segment

By Paul Joseph

Most of the world’s biggest luxury car brands have responded to the growing demand for off-road cars in recent years with their own high-spec sports utility vehicles.

In fact, Lamborghini recently confirmed that their Urus SUV will make its debut this December, but one manufacturer to have stayed out of this particular segment has been Ferrari – until now.

The Italian marquee have got in on the act by announcing that they plan to add an SUV to their product line-up for the first time in the company’s history over the next few years.

Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Ferrari, confirmed that the company is “dead serious” about an SUV. “Ferrari is beyond just considering an SUV and will take about 30 months to decide on production, which will be limited to preserve exclusivity.”

“We need to learn how to master this whole new relationship between exclusivity and scarcity of product, then we’re going to balance this desire to grow with a widening of the product portfolio,” he added.

In an attempt to differentiate themselves from those already on the market, Ferrari is referring to their proposed SUV as an “FUV”, short for Ferrari Utility Vehicle.

The Ferrari FUV is expected to arrive in 2021 and will be the sole four-door offering in the company’s line-up.
