Francesca Migone On Bringing Italian Candles to China

By Paul Joseph

It is fair to say that one luxury brand showcasing their talents at the 2015 China Rendez-Vous burned more brightly than most – quite literally, in fact.

Italian antiques company Migone dal 1866 arrived at the show with their lavish range of high-end candles, keen to tap into the lucrative and ever-growing Chinese market for luxury goods.

We caught up with Francesca Migone of Migone dal 1866 to learn more about her company and about her hopes for the show.

“My brand is an antiques brand based in Florence, Italy and is since 1866 a family business and we do candles,” she explained. “We started with ecclesiastic candles and then in the 1990s […] we started to do private label candles and perfume lines.

“So we have several clients in brand fashion, design – Italian and from the USA, from South America and we are keen on the high level market.

“First of all we have a story behind us, so we have all the secrets of this business, of this work, and we do some part of the production by hand still, so we choose the perfume, we choose the fragrance, we choose the wax, and it’s all tailor made for the client.

“Since this fair is a luxury fair we came with some samples of candle making especially for the china market. So it’s luxury, its’ gold. They are mad about Italian luxury. You can easily see all these brands in Hong Kong, in Beijing, they like very much the ‘Made in Italy’ label. It’s very important and we sell a lot in Asia.”
