Girard-Perregaux Reveals New Aston Martin F1 Edition

By Emily Dawkins

Renowned Swiss watchmaker, Girard-Perregaux, has revealed a brand new model in collaboration with luxury British car manufacturer, Aston Martin, and the Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One Team (AMF1). The ‘Laureato Absolute Chronograph Aston Martin F1 Edition’ is the groundbreaking result of this dynamic new collaboration.

The new limited edition Laureato Absolute Chronograph AM F1 Edition goes above and beyond the confines of watch design. Created entirely with the competitive world of F1 at the forefront, the watch’s features are certainly groundbreaking.

Incredibly, and a first for the watch industry, the timepiece’s 44mm case has been comprised of titanium powder and carbon elements from two F1 cars used in the 2021 season. Combined with tinted resin, the finished material provides impressive adaptability, claimed to be similar to that of steel. As a rare material, each individual timepiece will look unique: differing to any other watch on the market.

The unique and innovative qualities of the new watch doesn’t stop there. The model’s GP Rubber Alloy strap is comprised of FKM rubber and carbon elements also taken from two F1 cars used in the 2021 season. Coloured in striking Aston Martin green, the strap offers extreme resistance and comfortable flexibility when compared to standardised rubber, and its overall finish is enhanced with an outstanding fabric-effect look.

Not only designed to be exclusively attractive, the mechanisms inside the timepiece are also remarkable. Uncommon for a Laureato Absolute Chronograph model, the Laureato Absolute Chronograph AM F1 Edition boasts a pane of sapphire crystal on its rear, allowing its wearer to showcase the automatic manufacturer movement of the Calibre GP03300-1058.

Renowned as an ultra-luxury brand, Aston Martin’s iconic style has been showcased through Girard-Perregaux’s design. An Aston Martin Racing Green coloured dial, adorned with cross-hatching similar to the memorable Aston Martin ‘AM’ badge of 1921, sporty open-worked hands, and a hint of lime green, make the model not only eye-catching, but a commendable honour to the AMF1 brand. Moreover, according to the Swiss watchmaker, there are some additional details that, ‘are very subtle and may only be spotted by devotees of Aston Martin and those in the know’.

Girard-Perregaux’s CEO, Patrick Pruniaux, commented on the special collaboration: ‘From the outset, working with Aston Martin has been a joy. It has not just been a case of putting our name on a Formula OneTM car. On the contrary, we have collaborated on various projects, resulting in the production of two very different watches. Working together has led to some innovative and interesting ideas, culminating in the creation of new exciting products. It has also led to some wonderful friendships forming between both companies’ personnel. With our previous collaborative models, the emphasis was on style and elegance. However, with this latest watch we sought to work closely with the F1 side of the brand, focusing more on the idea of performance.’

Team Principal of Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One Team, Mike Krack, remarked: ‘As a team, we have the determination to succeed – and that ambition requires us to analyse every element of our performance package. That includes managing the materials we use to build our cars, measuring their weight, their strength, all in a bid to find that critical extra thousandth of a second in lap-time. Girard-Perregaux is a valued partner to our organisation, and we have worked together to share and combine our knowledge to improve each other’s brands. The new Laureato Absolute Chronograph AM F1 is the first example of this collaboration, and a stunning example of the work we can achieve together.’

The Girard-Perregaux Laureato Absolute Chronograph AM F1 Edition is a limited edition model of only 306 pieces: a poignant sentiment to the total distance AMF1 drivers Lance Stroll and Sebastian Vettel will aim to cover on the race day of the 2022 British Grand Prix at Silverstone (5.891km x 52 laps).

This innovative and exclusive model is now available worldwide - you don’t want to miss out.
