Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria the Perfect Base for America’s Cup Action

By Paul Joseph

The qualifying heats for one of the world’s most historical yacht racing events, the America’s Cup, comes to Naples in April and sailing enthusiasts making the trip will be looking for an ideal base from which to enjoy the action.

Naples originally hosted the America’s Cup World Series in 2012, drawing over 500,000 spectators to the site, and a similar number are expected to arrive in the southern Italian city for this year’s event.

Many of them will be seeking the perfect vantage point to witness the high-octane yacht racing, and one option is the Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria. Located on a high cliff in the small town of Sorrento just 50km south of Naples, the hotel offers spectacular views over the Gulf of Naples, where 11 of the top sailing teams in the world will be going head-to-head on cutting-edge catamarans.

And with the competition taking place extremely close to shore, spectators will have the chance to experience all the visceral thrills of top level racing as the dramatic action unfolds.

Away from the racing, the hotel also offers a range of other activities and facilities. Guests have the chance to hire a boat and head to the stunning Punta Campanella Marine Park, where they can enjoy a host of watersports including sailing, snorkeling and scuba diving.

Boasting a history dating back more than 175 years, the Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria remains in the hands of its original founders, the Fiorentino family, and has attracted a number of iconic figures over the years including monarchs, politicians, artists and celebrities.

Following the April event in Naples, the America’s Cup World Series will culminate with two events in the USA at the end of May.
