Harry Winston Honours Chinese Year of the Pig with Rose Gold Timepiece

By Paul Joseph

American jewellery house Harry Winston has honoured the Chinese Year of the Pig by launching a commemorative rose gold version of its Premier Automatic 36mm timepiece.

Brought to life with precious pearl marquetry, the new watch’s design elements, including the pig, magnolia flowers and vivid red background, pay tribute to some of China’s richest cultural traditions.

In Chinese culture, the pig is considered a symbol of wealth, and every detail of this timepiece pays homage to China’s rich cultural traditions and symbols.

The dial’s bright red background recalls the country’s national flag, while magnolia  branches, which were a symbol of female beauty and grace in ancient China, offer a touch of femininity.

Painting with mother-of-pearl, Harry Winston also demonstrates its mastery of the delicate art of pearl marquetry. Fiery red mother-of-pearl offers a dramatic backdrop for the pig, shown gazing up at dazzling diamonds.

Crafted in 18-karat rose gold, the pig’s curly tail and raised snout come to life, with fine slivers of mother-of-pearl coming together to create the delicate magnolia flowers.

The Pig is the twelfth and final animal in the Chinese Zodiac and welcomes its New Year in February 2019. People born in the Year of the Pig are said to be fun loving, warm hearted and generous.

Founded in New York in 1932, Harry Winston has grown into one of the world’s most prestigious watch and jewellery brands.
