An exotic change from shiny wristwatches, luxury goods company Hermès has unveiled a new way of telling the time with its animal inspired timepiece.

Hermès has designed a stunning table clock swathed in top-quality saddle-stitched alligator skin especially for the Only Watch 2009 event.

The clock’s burgundy alligator finish is applied over layer of fine leather, resulting in a timepiece reminiscent of a 1930s clock. A stainless steel chassis and easel back also in alligator complete the 17.5 centimetre creation.

The all-important hands and indexes are formed of anthracite metal and are moved via a Swiss mechanical eight-day power reserve calibre 51 featuring 15 jewels. Other features include a leather dial, and manual winding key shaped like a Hermès “H”. The timepiece will be delivered in a red lacquered Hermès traveling case with a small plaque reading “Only Watch 2009”.

Only Watch is a Monaco based auction held every two years during the prestigious Yacht Show whose proceeds go to support research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Hermès produced the table clock alongside 34 other quality watchmakers who are each crafting a unique timepiece for the auction.
