Sunbathing technology has advanced very little over the years: other than cup holders and sumptuous materials, the sun lounger has remained fairly basic, until now. The innovative and ingenious creations garnered by the Beach and Pool 2008/2009 design competition have launched sunbathing into the 21st century.
The hi-tech lounger known as 'S3', which signifies the sun and the three relaxing positions it can mould into, is a solar-powered lounger with an automatic mechanism that follows the sun keeping the bed always oriented with the direct of its rays. It also features an automatic water drop spray which enacts a refreshing action of spraying vaporized water all along the body, keeping sleepy sunbathers from getting too burnt. The motorized roof can be adjusted to the convenience of the user, while a touch screen LCD display, DVD player, speakers and USB slot, all powered by solar energy, helps keep restlessness to a minimum. Crafted in teak with anodized aluminium, this sun bed is as sleek and stylish as it is downright useful.Other notable sun beds include the refresh lounge, with its cold steam push-button option to keep bathers refreshed while they soak in the sun and the SunCoon, a multifunctional bed for sunbathing and outdoor lounging.
