Hilton London Creates World’s First “Vegan Hotel Suite”

By Paul Joseph

It was perhaps only a matter of time until the global dietary and lifestyle phenomenon of veganism reached the luxury sphere – and news that the 5-star Hilton Bankside hotel in London has designed the world’s first vegan hotel suite suggests that moment may have arrived.

The creation of UK-based food and design studio Bompas & Parr, the hotel suite has been crafted from solely plant-based materials, and is nestled inside the luxury Hilton hotel, which is located a stone’s throw away from some of London’s most famous landmarks including Tate Modern, Borough Market and The Shard.

Meanwhile the typical assortment of animal-derived materials that features in most hotel rooms, such as leather, wool and feather, are noticeable by their absence.

Instead, Pinatex – vegan-friendly fruit leather – has makes its debut on the hospitality landscape, featuring in the suite’s large bedroom, sitting area and bathroom.

The design has been painstakingly thought through, with everything from cotton carpets and footstools to scatter cushions and the headboard made from the vegan leather product.

Additionally, feather pillows have been replaced with a choice of buckwheat or millet hulls, kapok or bamboo and the entire selection of toiletries, snacks, drinks and cleaning products are 100% free of animal products, too.

The Hilton London Bankside opened in 2015, billed as the next generation of design-led Hilton hotels.
