Hublot Launches Brasilia-Inspired Chronograph

By Paul Joseph

Luxury watch brand Hublot has created a new timepiece that pays tribute to the 103-year-old Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, who designed the country’s distinctive capital city of Brasilia.

Limited to just 104 pieces – after the remarkable age Niemeyer will reach later this month – the Aero Bang Niemeyer is also designed to capitalise on the excitement surrounding Brazil’s hosting of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

The world-renowned architect, who was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1907, agreed to work with Hublot to create the special timepiece, which is made from tantalum and includes an elegant matt black skeleton dial.

Yellow and green colours – national colours of Brazil – have been subtly applied to the watch’s indexes and hands.

The 104 numbered pieces will be available in Brazil, exclusively from Grifith in Brasilia, priced at €22,400 (£19,200).
