Interview with Tamara Grove of Rolls-Royce

By Paul Joseph

When Rolls-Royce founder Sir Henry Royce spoke of “striving for perfection”, perhaps even he could not have imagined the phrase would resonate for quite so many decades.

But the iconic British brand’s reputation for impeccable design and performance endures as strongly today as ever before – a fact illustrated by sales figures in 2011 which were the best in the company’s history.

Superyachts.com sat down with Tamara Grove of Rolls-Royce at the recent Palm Beach Boat Show to discuss the secret to the brand’s success.

Speaking to Shari Liu, luxury director, Ms Grove began by describing how Rolls-Royce has continued to be synonymous with luxury.

“We have the reputation of being the best motor car in the world,” she said. “Each car is hand-built to our client’s specifications.

“There’s an interesting quote from one of our founders, Sir Henry Royce, who said ‘strive for perfection in everything you do’, and that comes across in every Rolls Royce that you see on the road.”

But if it is perfection that typifies a Rolls-Royce, what typifies a Rolls-Royce client?

“It’s an interesting question,” Ms Grove said, “because there’s not a typical Rolls-Royce client.

“We’ve learned this because they come from all walks of life, and the interesting thing is that it could be a head of state, an industry captain, or a film star, but one of the things that’s common to all of these people is that they’re looking for the very best.

“When you own a Rolls-Royce it’s a piece of luxury that represents your success, whether it’s in your business or your personal life.”
