Called the Mudan, the one-of-a-kind wrist watch is the creation of Coronet, the signature brand of Hong Kong-based Aaron Shum Jewelry, and is set with a world record 15,858 diamonds totalling 50.01 carats.
The watch is set in 18-karat gold and features jewellery designer Reena Ahluwalia’s diamond painting on the dial. The hyper-realistic art of diamond painting takes hundreds of hours for a single creation and is highly coveted.
Ahluwalia said her painting is representative of “the shining nobility that we carry within.”
Coronet also introduced a watch collection of similar designs alongside the Mudan at Baselworld, set with fewer diamonds.
This is not the first world record for Coronet. The luxury brand now has nine Guinness World Records to its name, including one it received for most valuable guitar in 2015 and a Coca-Cola inspired handbag featuring the most diamonds on a single handbag.
The one-off Mudan timepiece is priced at a cool $500,000.
