IWC Launches New Portuguese Yacht Club Chronograph
Swiss luxury watchmakers IWC have continued their annual tradition of creating special edition watches to raise money for charity by launching a limited edition version of their iconic Portuguese Yacht Club Chronograph model.
Limited to just 1,000 pieces, the special edition Portuguese Yacht Club Chronograph boasts the distinctive blue dial that is the hallmark of all of IWC’s ‘Laureus’ watches – created to aid the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation , which helps less fortunate people enjoy a better life through the power of sport.
For each of the past seven years, IWC has selected a model from one of its six families to redesign and launch as a new limited ‘Laureus’ edition watch, with all proceeds from their sales going to the foundation.
The back of the Portuguese Yacht Club Chronograph Laureus Edition is engraved with a drawing by 12-year-old Hakkini Hasanga Sandumal De Silva from Sri Lanka, the winning entry from the ‘Time to Move’ global children’s drawing competition held annually by IWC.
Standard features for an IWC Portuguese Yacht Club Chronograph include a 45mm stainless steel case, IWC’s in-house 89365 calibre flyback chronograph movement, and a power reserve of 68 hours
The special edition watch’s official retail price is yet to be announced, but is expected to be in the region of €11,900 (£10,350).
The Laureus Sport for Good Foundation has put in place over 140 programmes worldwide and is supported by an array of high profile figures from the world of sport.
