Jaeger-LeCoultre Tribute Watch Marks 50th Birthday

By Paul Joseph

Swiss luxury watch brand Jaeger-LeCoultre has marked the 50th anniversary of its original Memovox Polaris timepiece with a lavish tribute version.

The new limited edition Polaris Memovox was on display at the recent SIHH watch fair in Geneva, and was widely hailed as a worthy homage to the iconic watch designed to honour its half-century birthday.

The vintage-inspired model features the special alarm function made famous by the original watch and has a distinctive three-crown design: one for setting the alarm, one for the inner rotating bezel, and another for setting the time.

It boasts a 42mm stainless steel case that is identical in style and proportions to the original and houses the Jaeger-LeCoultre Caliber 956 – an automatic movement with alarm and date.

This caliber is a direct descendant of the first automatic alarm watch movement created by Jaeger-LeCoultre in the 1950s.

Other vintage hallmarks include three-finish black dial, vanilla luminous paint to mimic aged tritium, and the triangle along with trapezoidal indices mixed with four Arabic numbers.

The new Polaris Memovox timepiece comes on a rubber strap with Clous de Paris pattern and steel folding buckle.

Only 1,000 examples will be made available, each with a price tag of $12,600.
