Land Rover to Unveil Diesel-Electric Hybrid Models

By Paul Joseph

British car manufacturer Land Rover is set to unveil new diesel-electric hybrid versions of its latest Range Rover and Range Rover Sport SUVs at this year’s Frankfurt Auto Show which takes place in September.

Set to go on sale in Europe by the end of this year, the new models will be joined at the Frankfurt show by a new V-8 diesel Range Rover Sport delivering as much as 516 pound-feet of torque.

A turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 diesel will be connected in parallel with an electric motor that sits between the engine and the vehicle’s eight-speed automatic transmission. The batteries and other essential items will be located within the vehicle floor, ensuring that no interior space is interfered with.

Speaking recently, Land Rover engineer Stuart Frith said the carmaker will eventually offer its turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine in the Range Rover Sport, thanks to significant weight savings introduced with the latest generation of the performance SUV.

The Frankfurt Auto Show runs from September 12th – 22nd.
