Luxury Zanzibar Resort to Feature Superyacht Marina

By Paul Joseph

Africa may not be known as a superyacht hub, but a new luxury resort opening in Zanzibar may help change that.

Set to fully open in 2020, the Zanzibar Amber Resort will be spread across 3,756 acres and will comprise five hotels, as well as a number of ultra-lavish amenities including a superyacht marina, an Ernie Els-designed golf course, an aqua park, an underwater restaurant and nightclub, and a traditional shopping souk.

Furthermore, there are also plans for a private airport with a 9,842-foot runway, a medical facility and a private international school.

Meanwhile permanent residences will be available for people looking to call the resort home, with an expected 1,914 luxury villas as well as 3,440 luxury apartments priced between $700,000 and $10 million.

Among the five hotels will be properties owned and operated by renowned hotel brands including the Ritz Carlton and Anantara.

According to developers Pennyroyal Gibraltar, the first residential property will open this year, with the golf course and several hotels opening next year.

Once finished, the resort will be the largest anywhere in East Africa.
