Maurice Lacroix Creates Masterpiece Gravity Watch

By Paul Joseph

Amongst the array of lavish creations on display at the 2014 Baselworld watch fair next month will be an innovative design by Swiss brand Maurice Lacroix.

The Masterpiece Gravity is hailed as the first ever timepiece to feature a fully silicon assortment, with the synthetic compound used for the double roller of the watch’s balance wheel, the pallet fork and the escape wheel.

Silicon was chosen due to its self-lubricating, hard and light properties, which makes it ideal for these components since they are in perpetual motion and undergo substantial wear and tear.

The case of the Masterpiece Gravity measures 43mm and comes in satin-brushed and polished or sandblasted and anthracite PVD-finished stainless steel.

A striking component of the watch is the ‘glass-box’ sapphire crystal which is domed and magnifies the oscillator and assortments, making them appear to sit high within the case, giving an almost three dimensional effect.

Other notable features include a white lacquered dial with blue or rhodium hands adorned with Clou de Paris and Côtes de Genève Colimaçon patterns,

Pricing for the Masterpiece Gravity is expected to be announced at its Baselworld launch. The prestigious watch fair takes place from March 27th – April 3rd.
