Mercedes Announces New SL 65 AMG Model

By Paul Joseph

Mercedes-Benz has revealed its new SL 63 AMG model - the first Mercedes car to feature the new brand face of AMG, a subsidiary of the German car brand that specialises in high-performance luxury cars.

The new range-topping, V12-powered SL 65 AMG includes a new front section dominated by a new "twin blade" radiator grille and the front apron's lower cross strut in high-sheen chrome.

The car is distinguished from its predecessors through the use of additional high-sheen chrome highlights on the surrounds of the AMG daytime running lamps and the fins on the bonnet and the side of the wings.

The 6.0-litre V12 "biturbo" (twin-turbocharged) engine develops a maximum output of 630 bhp and maximum torque of 1000Nm, enabling acceleration from 0 to 62 mph in 4 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph.

Ola Källenius, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH, said: "The combination of exclusive V12 dynamic performance and a refined roadster driving experience was already the defining attribute of the predecessor model.

“We are convinced that, with the new SL 65 AMG, we have developed an incomparably exciting high-performance vehicle for the small, but loyal community of fans.”

The Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG will arrive in the UK in Autumn 2012. Pricing and final specifications are yet to be confirmed.
