Mercedes Presents ‘Silver Arrow of the Seas’

By Paul Joseph

World renowned German carmakers Mercedes-Benz have teamed up with yacht designers Silver Arrows Marine to create a 14-metre luxury motorboat featuring its own wine cellar.

Called the Arrow460-Granturismo, the boat made its debut on the Côte d'Azur last week, hitting the water for the first time.

With a 960 horsepower (706 kW), the vessel seeks to blend the best of automotive design and naval architecture in one symbiotic form with car-like proportions.

Mercedes says the boat combines the best of open-top cruisers with the privacy of a cabin-cruiser, with large windscreen and windows over the cabin able to be raised and lowered to give you the feeling of being outside without wind or spray from the ocean.

As you'd expect on any regular Mercedes, air-conditioning and a high-quality stereo are standard. But unlike most other vehicles with a three-pointed star on the hood, the boat is also kitted out with extendable tables and beds, as well as a luxurious bathroom unit and separate dressing room.

Furthermore, there's also a wine cellar and ice machine while the interior has been fitted out in similarly lavish fashion. Fine grain eucalyptus wood is used as a floor covering, and the walls are also trimmed in flowing wood to create a unique ambience.

On the outside, the boat has been designed to reference traditional automotive design, including a feature line running along the side. The designers have also worked hard to make sure the practical details like handrails are seamlessly integrated into the shape.

Commenting on the boat, Silver Arrows Marine Chairman Ron Gibbs said: “Almost everything about Arrow460-Granturismo is unique, from its concept to the smallest bespoke detail.

“It is a motor yacht with a personality that truly embraces life, combining the best marine engineering with the inspired innovations and elegance that the world associates with the Mercedes-Benz name. By merging marine and automotive worlds, with their respective design language, technologies and ideas, we have created a new standard of motor yacht, unlike all others.”

Official pricing for the Arrow460 has not yet been announced.
