Mercedes Unveil AMG GT S Convertible Roadster

By Paul Joseph

Mercedes-Benz has introduced a convertible version of its hugely popular two-seat AMG GT S sports car.

Previously only available as a coupe, the S-spec Mercedes AMG GT  now comes as a roadster version with an impressive 515 horsepower under its hood.

It uses the same 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 as its siblings, with the power sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

According to Mercedes, the GT S Roadster can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 192mph.

The new Roadster comes standard with adaptive dampers and an electronically controlled limited-slip differential. However, buyers have the option to pick the AMG Dynamic Plus package, which brings firmer suspension, active engine mount and quicker-responding steering.

Like the other AMG GT roadster models, the GT S gets a power-folding fabric top along with Airscarf neck-level heating system and ventilated seats. Nappa leather upholstery and carbon fibre interior trim are available as option extras.

The Mercedes-AMG GT S Roadster will hit the American market later this year, although the German marque is yet to announce the price.
