By Paul Joseph

German luxury car makers Mercedes have created the new armour-plated S600 Guard model billed as one of the most secure cars ever made.

The strengthened S-Class Mercedes is said to protect occupants against the full gamut of threats including explosive devices and ballistics.

Special reinforced steel has been fitted between the car's structure and bodywork, while aramid components combined with thickened laminated glass coated with polycarbonate provide extra protection against shrapnel and glass.

The car’s interior comes with most of the driver aids found in Mercedes’ standard S-Class, with additional features including a rear-seat office also available.

Nnotable technical components include augmented brakes to deal with the car’s additional weight, and upgraded brake calipers to six-piston units which clamp on bigger brake discs

Powering the Guard is a 390 kW (530 hp) V12 engine, enabling a top speed of 210 km/h (130 mph).

The price of the Mercedes S600 Guard is yet to be announced.
