Montblanc Launch Meisterstück Sfumato Collection

By Paul Joseph

German luxury goods brand Montblanc has launched a stunning collection of leather men’s accessories.

Featuring a document-case, briefcase, tote, wallet, coin case and card holder, the Meisterstück Sfumato Collection is billed as blending age-old traditions with Montblanc’s passion for the finest craftsmanship.

The collection revisits a painting technique developed during the Renaissance era and applies it to the treatment of leather, most notably using a painting technique pioneered by Leonardo Da Vinci and his followers, “sfumato” featuring fine shading and a delicate graduation between colours.

At Montblanc’s Pelletteria in Florence, master craftsmen applied this technique to the finest and softest calfskin giving it an elegant patina. During the process, four layers of paint were lightly applied to each individual piece of leather creating a special finish.

Because each piece is delicately painted by hand before it is assembled, every bag, wallet or belt from the collection is completely unique.

The collection is available in three colours: rich brown, anthracite and navy blue.

Montblanc was founded by Claus-Johannes Voss, Alfred Nehemias and August Eberstein in Germany in 1908.
