The pen, which is a one-of-a-kind model, is the creation of German luxury goods brand Montblanc and is part of a new collection featuring five individual items.
The Homage to Johannes Kepler High Artistry Limited Edition collection is dedicated to capturing the sparkling brilliance of the stars and planets that Kepler, who is credited for discovering the laws of planetary motion, loved to study.
Inevitably, the pen that is drawing the most attention of the five in this collection is the Johannes Kepler High Artistry Stella Nova Limited Edition 1. It features 570 diamonds and 5,294 sapphires all arranged to remind the viewer of the Milky Way galaxy.
Other notable features include a diamond on the nib, another on the compass-style clip and a standout 6.20-carat sparkler on the cap crown.
The pen also comes with its own porcelain stand shaped to resemble a 17th century scrolled collar that Kepler himself wore. On top of this collar is an open porcelain scroll that features one of Kepler’s planetary drawings.
Finally, also included are a pair of cufflinks shaped like Kepler’s model of the solar system that he owned until his dying day.
Montblanc was founded by Claus-Johannes Voss, Alfred Nehemias and August Eberstein in Germany in 1908.
