Offering a vast array of amenities, including a state-of-the-art superyacht marina and an 18-hole Ernie Els-designed championship golf course, the resort is a regular haunt of the rich and famous, and in particular sporting stars thanks to its top class sports and fitness facilities.
In the medium term, Albany hopes to build on this by creating a sports medicine centre, enabling top-level athletes to spend time at Albany during their off-season without neglecting their health and fitness regimes.
Until that time, guests and residents can utilise a full-service spa and salon, a high-tech fitness centre with lap pool and Boxing ring, and a gymnasium containing so much equipment it resembles the inside of the International Space Station.
That is not to say that Albany has only been sprinkled with sporting stardust. Indeed, Albany House, the historic beachside man¬sion situated in the heart of the resort, was originally owned by French filmmaker and Inspector Gadget creator Jean Chalopin. Perhaps more famously, the pink colonial house also appeared in the 2006 James Bond film Casino Royale, serving as arch villain Dimitrios’ beachfront home.
And then there is the marina. Albany has been credited for increasingly attracting superyachts to The Bahamas, thanks to its state-of-the-art marina that can accommo¬date 72 vessels up to around 90 metres in size. Building on this success, early next year the first of the marina’s new luxury residences will be complete, adding to Albany’s already impressive portfolio of private villas for sale.
Indeed, whilst Albany welcomes its tran¬sient visitors with open arms, the resort’s real estate opportunities are the key¬stone of its success. A variety of homes have been built here, reflecting the fact that “people like different flavours of ice cream”, as Managing Partner Chris Anand aptly put it. They range from 3,000 square foot beachfront villas with uninterrupted ocean views to courtyard-style homes with private pools and gardens, all inspired by traditional Bahamian architecture.
Meanwhile a dedicated rental program is also available for owners wanting to generate extra income during times of the year they are not there.
