MYS: Nor-Tech on the Endless Potential of Custom Tenders

By Paul Joseph

There was a time not so long ago that tenders were simply considered a functional way of getting from your yacht to land, and back again. But now they serve a more expansive purpose, and one company to have helped shift the needle of how tenders are perceived is Nor-Tech.

We sat down with Geoff Tomlinson of Nor-Tech, to learn more about the evolution of the tender sector, and how the renewed possibilities of customisiation are helping drive the this market.

“Nor-Tech has been in business for over 25 years, and it was founded by two gentlemen from Norway,” he said.

“One of the major things that sets Nor-Tech apart from any other brand is the level of customisation that’s allowed. We really like to work with our customers, the end users, and find out what they’re going to use their tender or day boat for and we can really personalise the boat to their specifications.

But while tenders were once known for getting you to and fro your yacht, many yacht owners are now also using them as destination cruisers in their own right.

“Domestically a lot of the boats that we sell are going to be your day cruisers, not necessarily sold as tenders,” Mr Tomlinson said. “So this is a newer market for us in fitting the tender style.

“But what we’re finding is that a lot of the owners of the yachts are wanting something more than just transportation to and from, they’re wanting to be able to buy a tender but yet use it for a day boat for excursions with their tender as well. And that’s where we come in.”
