New Audi R8 Specifications Unveiled
German luxury car-makers Audi have released details on its upcoming R8 range, including a significant upgrade to the brand’s S tronic twin-clutch sports transmission.
Featuring in the R8 V8 and V10 Coupé will be the new S tronic transmission which replaces the R tronic automated manual gearbox in the previous R8 range, and is available as an optional upgrade from the standard six-speed manual gearbox.
With a three-shaft layout, the S tronic transmission enables gear shifts to take place within hundredths of a second and with virtually no interruption to tractive power. Additionally, the S tronic is also said to provide a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by up to 22g per kilometre driven.
As well as the revamped sports transmission, the new range will also feature all-LED lighting, equipment upgrades, and a boosted acceleration time to 62mph in just 3.5 seconds with S tronic (and 3.8 seconds with manual transmission).
Pricing for the new range starts at £91,575 ($143,000) for the R8 V8 4.2 FSI with manual transmission and rises to £127,575 ($199,000) for the top-of-the-range R8 V10 Plus 5.2 FSI with S tronic transmission.
