New York Museum Hosting Shoe Exhibition

By Paul Joseph

An exhibition celebrating the female passion for shoes is currently taking place at the Fashion Institute of Technology Museum in New York.

Called Shoe Obsession, the exhibition was curated by Dr. Valerie Steele, Fred Dennis and Colleen Hill and takes visitors on a journey through the evolution of the female shoe and its multitude of styles down the years.

It features 50 international designers and 150 contemporary shoes, including some of the world’s most iconic shoe designs such as Roger Vivier’s feather Eyelash pumps, Chanel’s gun heels and Prada’s flame shoes, as well as Noritaka Tatehana’s eighteen inch ballerina shoes and Masaya Kushino’s sculptural human hair, Cyprus wood and lace platforms.

Contemporary shoe styles on display include Charlotte Olympia’s Kiss Me Dolores pumps and Nicholas Kirkwood’s graffitied Keith platforms.

Shoe Obsession runs until April 13th.
