NYC to get Norman Foster-Designed Skyscraper

By Paul Joseph

World renowned British architect firm Foster + Partners have secured the commission to create a 200-metre skyscraper in the heart of Manhattan, New York City.

Located in New York’s Plaza District, 425 Park Avenue will represent the first full-block office to be built on the site for nearly 50 years.

Boasting picturesque green medians, contemporary art exhibitions and vast sidewalks, Park Avenue is one of Manhattan’s most famous and distinctive stretches.

The tower will comprise three gradated tiers of column-free floors, each featuring a landscaped terrace offering panoramic views across Manhattan, including iconic landmarks such as Central Park.

Schematics for street level show the potential to develop a large civic plaza featuring an array of amenities as well as art work.

Construction on the new 425 Park Avenue is slated to begin in 2015, with completion anticipated for the end of 2017.
