Omega Launch Apollo XVII Anniversary Timepiece

By Paul Joseph

Swiss luxury watch-maker Omega has created a new timepiece to mark the 40th anniversary of the astronaut Eugene Cernan’s moon landing in 1972.

The lunar mission in December that year - the last of the Apollo program – has been commemorated with the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Apollo XVII Anniversary watch.

Limited to 1,972 pieces, in honour of the year of the mission, the timepiece features a 925 silver, hand-patina dial embossed with the Apollo XVII patch, an illustration representing Man, the Future, the Recollection of Apollo, and the American flag.

The watch's 42-mm case is in stainless steel, with both polished and brushed finishes, and has a black tachymeter scale on the bezel, whilst both the dial and its blackened hands are protected by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal.

The Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Apollo XVII timepiece is available priced at £4,455 ($7,200).
