Peters & May Ramps up Sailings to the USA & Caribbean

By Christina Tsangaris

Autumn yacht transport enquiries have soared as travel restrictions relax and owners look forward to sailing in a warmer climate.

Peters & May, the leading provider of bespoke global transport solutions for over four decades, has increased its sailings to Florida and the Caribbean this autumn and winter to meet the increased demand from yacht owners choosing to sail in warmer waters now that transatlantic travel restrictions are easing.

The company has reported a high increase in their charter sailings to and from Fort Lauderdale, Antigua, St. Thomas and Tortola. Although many of the enquiries are from customers who are regulars to the Islands as part of their traditional annual migration from Europe and the Mediterranean, Peters & May has said that many newcomers are also choosing the Caribbean as their winter cruising destination for the first time and are looking forward to exploring the warmer waters of the US and Caribbean.

Matt Penfold, Managing Director of Peters & May USA said, “Since the further relaxation of Covid restrictions in these areas, yacht owners have a clearer idea of where they can and cannot sail and are feeling more confident of an uninterrupted season. After a prolonged period of indecision and lockdowns, they want to spread their wings again, relax and have some fun. In our experience, Antigua and St Thomas are the perfect destinations for yachts arriving by cargo vessel as we have experienced agents in these ports who can assist locally with any customs clearance formalities so that customers can set off with peace of mind.”

Peters & Mays has a long-established network of global shipping agents and multiple ship owners which places them in a strong position to overcome the many challenges currently being met by the industry, including lack of available vessels.

“There is much in the news on the challenges being faced by yacht logistics and the wider shipping community,” continued Penfold. “In spite of these challenges, we have been able to secure the additional transatlantic routes and offer more choice for our customers to the popular Caribbean sailing destinations thanks to our strong connections with the wider shipping industry and subsidiary partners”

Peters & May is the only yacht transport company that offers a regular heavy-lift US and Caribbean service following its collaboration with Oslo Bulk a year ago which saw the introduction of regular northbound and southbound heavy-lift sailings between the US East Coast and the Caribbean for the very first time.

To underpin its US and Caribbean operations, the company has offices in Fort Lauderdale and Charleston with a team of nine who deliver professional advice on every aspect of a yacht’s journey from due diligence to customs documentation. The US-based team is also supported by a special consultant for Racing Yacht Logistics, based in Newport, Rhode Island.

"In spite of these challenges, we have been able to secure the additional transatlantic routes and offer more choice for our customers to the popular Caribbean sailing destinations thanks to our strong connections with the wider shipping industry and subsidiary partners."
