PGA Star Creates Hovercraft for Golf Courses
American golfer Bubba Watson has teamed up with golf equipment experts Oakley to create a golf buggy-cum-hovercraft capable of gliding over any golfing terrain.
Developed by an Indiana-based company called Neoteric Hovercraft Inc., the BW1 Golf Cart floats above sand, grass and water obstacles on an air bubble, leaving no trace of its journey.
As well as traversing everything a golf course has to offer, the innovative vehicle also fulfills all of the conventional requirements a golf enthusiast would look for in a golf cart.
“I see a lot of stares, a lot of laughs and then they actually see how efficient it is,” said Watson, winner of the 2012 Masters Tournament.
“I think it's going to get more people more involved. They're going to want to just drive the hovercraft and not play golf! That's how I got started - driving a golf cart, and then golf got in the way.”
It is not the first time Bubba Watson has been seen with a quirky piece of kit. He also owns the red Dodge Charger car from the TV series Dukes of Hazzard , as well as a neon pink driver golf club.
