Porsche 2015 Cayenne SUV to Feature Plug-In Option

By Paul Joseph

Porsche have confirmed that its revamped Cayenne SUV for 2015 will come with a plug-in hybrid option.

Billed as the world’s first premium SUV to offer a plug-in option, the Cayenne S E-Hybrid will join the Panamera S E-Hybrid and 918 Spyder to bring the number of Porsche plug-ins to three.

The new model borrows from some of the technology used for the Porsche 918 Spyder hypercar, helping ensure there is no compromise on speed, with its brand new 3.6-litre V6 bi-turbo engine allowing a 0-62 mph time of 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 151 mph.

The car can be driven solely on the electric motor for up to 22 miles and can be recharged either from the grid by plugging it in or by drawing power form the petrol engine when in motion.

It will come in two diesel variants — the V6 Cayenne Diesel and the slightly faster V8 Cayenne Diesel S.

Prices in Europe will start at €66,260 for the Diesel and top out at €128,378, before optional extras, for the Turbo. It will go on sale in October.

Founded by Ferdinand Porsche in Germany in 1931, Porsche has grown to become of the world’s most renowned luxury sports car brands.
