Porsche Launch Limited-Edition Porsche 911 Speedster

By Paul Joseph

A limited edition version of the Porsche 911 Speedster, first unveiled as a concept study to mark the German marquee’s 70th anniversary last year, has entered production.

Due to enjoy its official debut at the upcoming 2019 New York Auto Show, the new model body shell is based on the 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet, with its hood and fenders made of carbon fibre.

Meanwhile the chassis has been taken from the GT3 RS, while the naturally aspirated 4.0-litre engine comes from the 911 GT3 RS and produces 502 horsepower and 346 lb-ft of torque.

Designed to appeal to driving purists, the limited edition 911 Speedster has a six-speed manual gearbox instead of the seven-speed manual found in other 911s.

Furthermore, the new Speedster is also equipped with the entire Porsche performance gear as standard, which includes rear-axle steering, dynamic engine mounts, and a carbon-ceramic braking system.

Production of the speedster will be limited to just 1948 units worldwide as a tribute to the Porsche 356 “Number 1” that received its operating license in 1948.

The 911 Speedster is priced at $274,500, with orders starting in early May and deliveries kicking in later this year.
