Portofino Watches Steal the Show

By P. Joseph

Amongst the myriad of impressive timepieces on display at last month’s luxury watch show in Geneva, the new Portofino models by IWC grabbed many of the headlines.

The Chronograph and the Automatic have been added to the classic Portofino Family collection – both boasting metal Milanese straps harking back to their hey-day in the mid-20th century.

Available in 18k gold or steel, the new timepieces are 40mm wide and have black or white dials.

The new models join the Portofino Dual Time and Portofino Hand-Wound Eight Days as the IWC’s stable of Portofino watches for 2011.

They will also help to build on the success of last year’s high-profile promotional campaign, in which the photographer Peter Lindbergh shot several celebrities in the Italian fishing village of Portofino, all wearing the eponymous watches.

Amongst the stars to take part in the campaign were actors Kevin Spacey and Matthew Fox, model Elle Macpherson, and former sportsmen Zinedine Zidane and Boris Becker.
