Ralph Lauren Launches Sporting Automotive Flying Tourbillon

By Paul Joseph

Ralph Lauren have unveiled the Sporting Automotive Flying Tourbillon, a timepiece inspired by the Italian brand’s eponymous founder’s 1938 Type 57SC Bugatti Atlantic Coupe.

The watch, which features one of the most prestigious watchmaking complications, the Flying Tourbillon, pays homage to the Bugatti’s dashboard with richly toned elm burlwood at the outer dial.

The flying tourbillon is revealed through an aperture at 6 o’clock and supported only at the bottom of the cage, appearing as if suspended due to its meticulously cantilevered construction.

Housed within a 45mm shot-blasted black stainless steel case, and operating at a frequency of 28,800vph, the exclusive RL167 self-winding caliber replaces the previous caliber RL67 movement from the brand’s first tourbillon and is billed as reducing the effects of gravity to achieve absolute precision.

This Automotive Flying Tourbillon watch is the first in the new Automotive collection that will sit next to the Safari and Sporting collection of Ralph Lauren watches

The official price of the new Sporting Automotive Flying Tourbillon has not yet been announced, but is expected to be well in excess of $55,000.

Better known for their luxury apparel, Ralph Lauren have diversified in recent years by creating a range of luxury goods and accessories including high-end watches.
