Rare Hermes Birkin Bag Sells for $208k at Christies Auction

A rare Hermes Birkin Bag went under the hammer at a recent Christies Auction in Hong Kong, resulting in an impressive sale price of $208,000.

The 12-inch-wide So Black Birkin, which comes with a clochette, lock, keys, a black felt protector, and a black dust bag, fetched over four times its pre-sale estimate.

The Handbag was designed by Jean Paul Gaultier, who served as creative director for the brand from 2003 to 2010 and is also renowned for designing costumes for the likes of Madonna, Lady Gaga, and Katy Perry.

The ‘So Black Birkin’ version of the Hermes Birkin was first launched in 2010 to mass acclaim.

In 2014, a matte white Himalaya niloticus crocodile diamond Birkin secured the world auction record after selling for a whopping $2.94 million in 2017.

Founded in Paris in1837, Hermes has grown to become one of the world’s most famous luxury labels.
