Roger Dubuis Debuts Excalibur Watch with Carbon Structure

By Paul Joseph

Swiss luxury watchmaker Roger Dubuis’s Excalibur collection is renowned for pushing the boundaries of horological expertise, especially with the use of special materials in contraction – and the latest watch to join this acclaimed collection continues to innovate in impressive fashion.

Called the Spider Excalibur Carbon3, the watch is the brand's first to be entirely comprised of components made of carbon, including the case, the caliber, and even the bracelet.

The ultra-light design features multi-layer carbon construction, helping the watch weigh as little as 81 grams – an impressive achievement for a timepiece of its size.

The ultra-tough carbon construction of the Spider Excalibur Carbon3 also makes it highly shock resistant and as strong as steel.

Another useful property of carbon is its tensile strength, which has helped Roger Dubuis in skeletonizing the timepiece. The layered-structure of the carbon has a unique graining pattern that adds depth and dimension, along with an eye-catching marbling effect.

Only 28 examples of the Spider Excalibur Carbon3 will be made, although pricing is yet to be announced.

Roger Dubuis was founded in 1995 through a partnership between master watchmaker Roger Dubuis and designer Carlos Dias.
