Scalfaro for Espen Øino: Limited Edition luxury

By Superyachts.com

Combining the talents of two design leaders from the worlds of superyachts and watches, this exclusive edition of timepieces provides a slice of contemporary luxury to a select few.

Norwegian naval architect Espen Øino joined forces with Swiss family-owned luxury brand Scalfaro for the creation of the collection.

The maritime design of the new edition watch was conceived on the drawing boards of Espen Øino in Monaco before being expertly crafted in Scalfaro's Ateliers in the Swiss Jura Mountains.

The timepiece itself features a solid 44mm watchcase inspired by the design and construction of a porthole. It displays a number of surface-finishings, polished facets and brushed tables which make it appear to sparkle in the sun.

The functional dial design boasts multi-level construction in perfect harmony with the clear design- language of the watchcase and exudes refinement with its two-tone colour concept.

Luminova, a luminous material, fills the diamond-polished hands of the watch which ensures good readability even at night.

Espen Øino’s name can be seen engraved on the inner bezel of the dial where it is protected by anti-glare, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal.

Honouring the maritime theme of the timepiece, twin coloured ceramic cylinders are set into the bezel; signalling portside is a red ceramic element at 9 o’clock, while a green ceramic element at 3 o’clock signals starboard.

Completing the well-balanced dial design are the three subdials in a V-configuration, and the 6 o’clock positioned date indication.

The Scalfaro for Espen Øino Edition watch features a highly refined Swiss Manufacture chronograph movement which ensures the mechanical measurement of time periods of up to 12 hours.

Hand-decorated with Geneva stripes, blued screws, and Perlage pattern, the function is visible through the caseback of Sapphire crystal.

The watch’s exterior showcases the Espen Øino Design Studio logo integrated into the solid stainless steel case at 6 o’clock.

Securing the many components of the complex watchcase is the fine craftsmanship of Scalfaro who uses its own unique ScalfaScrews, inspired by a winch, to screw the pieces together.

As you would expect from a maritime-inspired watch, water-resistance is provided by the “Scalfaro Multi-Step Protection“-System which protects the gaskets from direct water-contact.

The luxury watch is completed by a natural rubber strap with clever folding buckle that integrates into the watchcase with the help of two prolonged logs.

Combined with the slightly lowered centre-part, these logs with matt-finished tables and polished facets are an abstraction of a superyacht’s stern.

A highly comfortable fit of the watch on the wrist is assured by the refined weight-balance of the watchcase and its curved design.

Each of the 100 Scalfaro for Espen Øino Edition watches will carry a price tag of €6,950.
