Sofitel Opens New Hotel in Montevideo

Luxury hotel chain Sofitel have further expanded their reach into South America by opening a new residence in the Uruguayan capital of Montevideo.

Situated within a refurbished heritage building in Carrasco, the city’s most prestigious district, the Sofitel Montevideo Casino Carrasco and Spa boasts 93 rooms and 23 suites.

The residence is also home to an array of lavish amenities including a luxury spa, gourmet restaurant, bar, library, café, outdoor swimming pool and casino.

This Spring, Sofitel, owned by Accor Group, are also due to reopen the Sofitel Legend Santa Clara Cartagena in Columbia following a major renovation. Located in a 17th century former convent the hotel is home to several ancient artefacts.

Sofitel opened its first property in Strasbourg, France in 1964. Today the chain boasts 161 hotels worldwide.

In recent years the city of Montevideo has become increasingly popular as a tourist destination, with both Air France and Air Europa set to open direct flights from Paris and Madrid this summer.
