The Electric Grand Tourer, Refined: Polestar 5

By Nora Hart

Polestar continues their ascent as one of the most design-led names in electric mobility with the arrival of their flagship model, the Polestar 5. Revealed at the 2025 Munich Motor Show and now on sale, the all-electric grand tourer represents a defining moment for the brand, a confident statement of performance, sustainability and understated luxury. Aptly described as the ‘iPhone of EVs’, Polestar brings an Apple-like clarity of vision to the automotive world, where technology, design and lifestyle converge seamlessly.

The Polestar 5 is conceived as a modern grand tourer, engineered to rival supercars while retaining the calm sophistication of Scandinavian design. With 0–60 mph acceleration ranging from approximately 3.8 to 3.1 seconds, it delivers formidable performance wrapped in restraint rather than excess. Its long, low stance and clean surfacing reinterpret classic GT proportions through a modern minimalist lens, creating a silhouette that is both purposeful and quietly dramatic.

Externally, the design is defined by seamless flow. Frameless glass, retractable door handles and a panoramic roof are integrated into a drag-optimised body that prioritises efficiency as much as aesthetics. In a bold architectural move, external cameras replace the traditional rear window, allowing the roofline to remain uninterrupted while flooding the cabin with natural light. The result is a sleek, cohesive form that feels progressive without being ostentatious.

Inside, the Polestar 5 is an exercise in Scandinavian restraint and material innovation. Eco-conscious textiles made from recycled plastics and fishing nets sit alongside natural fibre composite trims, reflecting the brand’s commitment to sustainability without compromising luxury. Ergonomic seats and meticulous craftsmanship create a refined, calming environment, anchored by a 14.5-inch portrait touchscreen powered by Android Automotive. Digital interfaces are clear and intuitive, supporting the driver rather than overwhelming them.

Designed for long-distance elegance as much as performance, the Polestar 5 features an advanced 800-volt battery architecture, enabling ultra-fast charging from 10 to 80 per cent in around 22 minutes. With WLTP range estimates of up to 420 miles, it offers the effortless touring capability expected of a true GT, pairing sporting intensity with everyday usability.

Sustainability is not treated as a design flourish but as a core value. Responsibly sourced aluminium and bio-based interior materials reflect a broader philosophy of modern luxury, one that values longevity, transparency and environmental responsibility. This approach aligns naturally with audiences who see conscious design as integral to contemporary prestige.

Poised to stand confidently alongside supercars, the Polestar 5 is a new kind of flagship. Sleek, powerful and thoughtfully engineered, it embodies a distinctly Scandinavian interpretation of electric luxury, where performance meets purpose, and design is elevated through restraint.
