The S- Class Night Edition Mercedes Unveiled in Detroit

By Paul Joseph

Among the array of eye-catching cars to be showcased at this year’s Detroir Auto Show, which kicks off this weekend, will be the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe Night Edition.

The latest addition to Mercedes’ renowned S-Class range, the car is billed as combining “the classic proportions of a Gran Turismo with modern luxury and state-of-the-art technology” and is the largest two-door car in the German marquee’s entire portfolio.

As befitting its name, the new model comes in all-black, featuring shadowy outside mirrors, window sill inserts and grilles. Even the 20-inch AMG alloy wheels have been blacked out, while AMG-styled front and rear aprons add a striking finishing touch

The colours inside the cabin can be chosen by the buyer with options including black/black, crystal gray/black, saddle brown/black and Bengal red/black. Luxe nappa leather in the chosen colours will dress the AMG sports steering wheel and the upholstery.

A “Night Edition” logo will be seen on the steering wheel and other elements of the interior. Buyers will also have a say in the engine that powers the car, choosing between varying engines ranging from 367 to 455 hp with rear- or four-wheel-drive.

Orders will begin early this month, with European buyers receiving their Night Editions in April 2017 while Americans will have to wait until August 2017. Pricing is yet to be confirmed.
