The Spring Summer 2011 Collection by Kelly Locke

By P. Joseph

The Spring Summer 2011 Collection by handbag designer Kelly Locke owes a legacy to movie legends including Marlon Brando and Bridget Bardot.

The US designer, who spent eight years as a feature film Art Director, attributes his design discipline and attention to detail to his background which includes collaborations with Academy Award-winning artists.

His new Collection brings a fresh and refined look, combining a unique mix of exotic details and fine natural materials, including precious exotic skins such as anaconda, lizard, crocodile, python, hair calf and lambskin.

A native of the Pacific Northwest, Locke’s vision is to create accessories that are luxurious, wearable, and timeless. He employs a meticulous approach to the craft of each clutch, tote, and handbag by combining traditional hand-cutting and construction techniques with an innovative approach to material development and application.

Every design element is selected for its unique architectural contribution to the whole – from the line of the bag’s shape to the subtle ornamental accents such as agate stone feet, zipper pulls in petrified wood and elegant hand topstitching.

Locke sources materials directly from around the globe, which include cultivated anaconda and crocodile and lizard skins from South America, with a focus on bringing forth each skin’s distinctive textural beauty.

Prices for the Collection range from around $400 to $2,500, and are available at high-end retailers including Harvey Nichols Hong Kong, Church in Los Angeles, Henri Bendel in New York and online at Vivre.com.
