Historical Swiss watch brand Alpina has created a new timepiece to be showcased at the prestigious Baselworld watch fair at the end of this month.

Priced at €1,150, the Startimer Pilot Sunstar is billed as a tribute to aviators and was designed specifically for professional airline pilots. Alpina have a long history of creating watches for the aeronautical sector.

Boasting a 44mm satin-finish stainless steel case enclosing an anthracite sunray-finish dial, the watch also features large, luminous numerals and indices and luminous white hands for instant readability.

Other notable features include an AL-525 mechanical self-winding movement, a black leather strap with contrast stitching, water resistance up to 100 metres and a 38-hour power reserve.

Alpina was founded by Gottlieb Hauser in 1883. Today the company is owned by watch manufacturer Frederique Constant SA.

The Baselworld watch fair will take place from March 27 to April 3.
