German luxury car-maker BMW has launched its new 6 Series Gran Coupe model – with deliveries in North America due to begin next month.

Launched in China last week, the four-door Coupe is billed as the "true embodiment of aesthetics, sportiness, comfort and luxury in perfect form."

It comes in two versions: a 640i with an inline-six turbo engine with 320 hp, or the more powerful 650i xDrive which is equipped with a V8 turbo engine that provides maximum output of 407 hp.

The new BMW boasts exclusive features and equipment, roominess for rear passenger comfort and advanced functionality including folding rear seatbacks and an auxiliary third seat. An eight-speed automatic transmission, auto start-stop system and Eco-Pro driving mode are standard in both cars for better fuel efficiency.

Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design, said: “Like no other BMW, the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe unites extraordinary dynamics and the sheer good looks of a classic BMW Coupe with luxurious appeal.

"It is a combination that spawns a fascinating and thoroughly independent product personality which is, for me, symbolic of the pure BMW aesthetic."

The 2013 BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe is available at a base price of $76,895.
