WaveJet: The Jet-Propelled Surfboard

By P. Joseph

A California-based company has created a battery-powered surfboard that enables surfers to travel through the water at 3 times the speed of non-propelled boards.

Weighing just 13 pounds heavier than a traditional surfboard, the WaveJet is fitted with a patented Personal Water Propulsion (PWP) engine.

It adds between 6 and 10 knots to your speed in water, and is capable of 20 pounds of thrust, with a continuous run time of over 30 minutes.

The PWP can also be used for various other watercrafts such as SUPs, kayaks, kite boards, rescue boards and light boats.

Mike Railey, CEO of WaveJet, said: “When I surf, I want to surf and catch as many waves as possible. With a WaveJet, you may get exhausted, but it will be from surfing, not paddling. It really allows you to break free from traditional limitations.”

Priced at $3,500, the WaveJet is currently available for pre-orders.
