Whisky Brand gets the Westwood Treatment

By P. Joseph

Blended Scotch whisky brand Chivas Regal has teamed up with legendary fashion designer Vivienne Westwood to create an ultra-premium bottle cloaked in a Union Jack-themed three-piece coat.

Limited to a global edition of 2,500 bottles, the 18-year-old whisky was unveiled at a dinner held after the British designer’s Autumn/Winter 2011 Red Label show at London Fashion Week last Sunday.

Priced at $495 each, the bottles are the third collaboration between Chivas Regal and the fashion world – having previously worked with designers Alexander McQueen and Christian Lacroix.

James Slack, International Brand Director for Chivas Regal, said: “Strong British heritage and luxury craftsmanship serve as the foundation to both Chivas Regal 18 Year Old and Vivienne Westwood.

“The work that our Master Blender, Colin Scott, puts into crafting Chivas Regal 18 Year Old is in many ways the same to that of a fashion designer – there is a true art to what they do.”

Dame Westwood said: “I made these decisions to enfold the whisky in a cocoon of traditional British feeling - Savile Row, Scottish clans, supporting fixtures, comfortable homes – everything cosy, classic, cultured.

“I am English, so it is impossible for me to ignore British culture in my designs,” she added.
